Where to Stay in London: Canopy by Hilton Hotel Review
“I guess you’re in London today... And I don’t wanna need you this way”
Planning to visit England’s capital? Then you’re probably on the hunt for a place to stay. The tricky thing about London is that while there’s no shortage of hotels, finding the right one can feel like a bit of a maze. Maybe the location’s perfect, but the rooms are the size of a shoebox. Or you find a spacious option, only to realize it’s halfway to Heathrow. And let’s not even talk about the prices at the trendier spots. If you’re after something stylish, well-located, and still reasonably priced, I might have found a hotel that checks all your boxes.
While this hotel sits in the upper mid-range category, it’s not outrageously expensive for London standards. You’re getting great design, a central location, and a few extras that make your stay feel more special. The rooms are surprisingly spacious too, so you won’t be tripping over your suitcase—or your travel companion—on your way to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
Whether you’re in town for a city break, a work trip, or a mix of both, this spot balances style, convenience, and price.
I’m talking about the Canopy by Hilton London City, part of Hilton’s lifestyle hotel brand designed for travelers who want more personality and local flavor. Opened in late 2021, this hotel blends modern comfort with nods to the East End’s rich history—think 17th-century silk weaving mixed with a fresh vibe. With spacious, pet-friendly rooms, it’s made to feel like a home away from home.
Might this be the hotel you were looking for? Let’s find out!
In this post, we’ll determine if staying here is right for you while we cover all aspects of the hotel, from the rooms to the location.
The Location
Canopy by Hilton London City is located in the lively Aldgate neighborhood. It’s just a short 3-minute walk to Aldgate station, making it super easy to get around on the Circle and Metropolitan lines. Fenchurch Street train station is also nearby, about a 6-minute stroll away.
You’re also within walking distance of iconic spots like the Tower of London and Leadenhall Market, so plenty to explore without needing to jump on the subway. The closest airport is London City, and we paid around £40 for a taxi from there—but if you prefer, it’s also easy to reach the hotel by public transport.
The Rooms
As I mentioned before, most hotel rooms in London are pretty tiny, so I was pleasantly surprised by how spacious the rooms at Canopy by Hilton London City felt when I walked in. It’s not a suite or anything, but there’s enough room for you and your travel companion to have some personal space without stepping on each other.
The rooms are clean, with a closet to hang your stuff, plus a fridge and coffee and tea amenities to keep you going. There’s a smart TV if you want to catch some Netflix, and if you’re not into tap water, you can grab fresh filtered cold water right down the hall. The bathroom isn’t huge, but the shower is really nice. The rooms honestly have everything you need for a long weekend.
The Restaurant
When it comes to food, Canopy has plenty of options to choose from. There’s a cozy bar area where you can grab some tasty bites and cocktails. There’s also an Italian restaurant if you’re in the mood for pizza or pasta.
Breakfast is located in the same spot as the Italian restaurant. The buffet features the usual options such as eggs, hash browns, cold cuts, yogurts, and fruit, and there is also an à la carte menu if you’re feeling something a bit different. If you’re in the mood to stay in for the night, you can also order room service with burgers and pizzas—perfect for a low-key evening.
One spot you really don’t want to miss out on is the rooftop restaurant, which you can get to straight from the hotel. It’s a great spot to sip on cocktails while soaking in those iconic city views.
The Amenities
Since I was in London just for a long weekend, and busy covering all the spots from Taylor Swift’s song London Boy, I didn’t get around to using many of the hotel’s amenities—but it’s good to know they’re there. I didn’t really get around to using many of the hotel’s amenities, but it’s good to know they’re there. There’s a fitness center if you want to squeeze in a workout, and you can also grab one of the hotel bikes if you feel like exploring the city on two wheels.
Plus, there’s a concierge desk available, so if you need help booking an activity or figuring out your plans, they’ve got you covered.
The Verdict
All in all, I really enjoyed my stay at Canopy by Hilton London City. Compared to other hotels I’ve stayed at in London, the extra space in the room was a real win—especially if you don’t want to feel cramped. The location made it super easy to get around, and I loved that I could even walk to a few spots. Getting to the hotel from London City Airport was a breeze too, which makes it an especially great pick if you’re flying into the city there.
The hotel's staff was friendly, and overall, it had everything I needed for a relaxed long weekend. If you’re looking for an upper-mid-range hotel that gives you a bit more breathing room without jumping into full-on luxury pricing, this one’s definitely worth considering.
