Cambrian Adelboden Review: Mountains & Modern Luxury
“The mountains are calling, and I must go”
Looking for a luxurious Alpine escape where you can ski all day, warm up by the fire at night, and soak in mountain views from a steaming outdoor pool? The Cambrian in Adelboden promises all of that and more.
Adelboden itself has long been a destination for winter travelers, and this hotel has been part of its history for over a century. Once known as the Grand Hotel Regina, it was transformed into the contemporary retreat you’ll find today—a place where modern design meets traditional Alpine views.
In this review, I’ll cover the rooms, the restaurant, and the location—and help you decide if The Cambrian is the right spot for your next Swiss getaway.
Here we go! Let’s determine if the stay is worth it while we cover all aspects of the hotel, from the rooms to the location.
The Location
The Cambrian is located in Adelboden, a small mountain town in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland, about an hour's drive from Bern and roughly 2.5 hours from Zurich. The hotel is right in town, so once you arrive, you can easily walk to the shops and restaurants or explore Adelboden without having to get back in the car.
Getting there, however, was a little more adventurous than I expected. I drove to Adelboden myself, and unfortunately, it got dark before I arrived. I'm not used to driving in the mountains, and at one point I found myself driving uphill on what felt like a one-lane road, with a ravine next to me and a speed limit of 80 km/h. I was absolutely terrified.
So, speaking from experience: if you're driving to Adelboden and you're not used to mountain roads, try to arrive before it gets dark. The drive is much less intimidating when you can actually see where you're going—and what's next to you.
The Rooms
The rooms at The Cambrian are modern but still feel like they belong in a mountain hotel, with plenty of wood and warm details throughout. The Alpine influence is there without being over the top—you won't feel like you've stepped into a traditional wooden chalet. If you've ever stayed somewhere like Zakopane in Poland, where the traditional mountain style is much more prominent, The Cambrian feels like a much more modern take on mountain interiors.
If you can, I'd definitely recommend booking a south-facing room. These have the best views of the surrounding mountains, and waking up to snow-covered peaks right outside your window is pretty special. For me, the view is a big part of staying somewhere like The Cambrian, so it's worth paying a little extra for the right room if your budget allows.
The Restaurant
Whether you’re going for a cozy dinner for two or a relaxed meal with the family, the restaurant at The Cambrian makes dining feel like part of the getaway. With warm, inviting interiors and big windows framing the mountains, it’s the kind of place where you can really slow down and enjoy the moment.
The menu mixes Swiss favorites with international dishes, so there’s plenty to choose from no matter what you’re in the mood for. Grab a plate, take in the views, and soak up the Alpine vibe
The Amenities
The pool is easily one of the highlights of staying at The Cambrian. Like the famous infinity pool at Villa Honegg, it's all about the mountain views rather than swimming laps. The outdoor section overlooks the surrounding peaks, and especially when there's snow on the mountains, it's a pretty incredible place to spend an afternoon.
There's also an indoor pool, so you can swim between the two without having to brave the cold outside. We spent quite a bit of time here after exploring Adelboden, and it's definitely one of the reasons I'd recommend staying at the hotel rather than simply visiting the area for the day.
The Verdict
In a nutshell, the Cambrian Hotel in Adelboden is that perfect Alpine escape—cozy, inviting, and just the right size. It’s not a huge resort where you feel lost in the crowds; instead, it feels like a hideaway where you can actually relax and take it all in.
Whether you’re planning a romantic weekend or a family getaway, the mix of comfort, style, and those breathtaking mountain views makes it a spot that sticks with you. If you’re after a place to unwind, enjoy the scenery, and soak up a bit of mountain magic, the Cambrian delivers—leaving you refreshed, relaxed, and already dreaming of your next visit.
