Tokyo Disneyland Hotel Review
“A dream is a wish your heart makes when you’re fast asleep.”
Staying at a Disney hotel is always a bit of a treat for me. I love being able to leave the park at the end of the day without feeling like the Disney experience is over, which is why I usually stay onsite whenever I visit Disneyland Paris. So naturally, when planning our trip to Tokyo Disney Resort, I wanted to do the same.
Tokyo Disneyland Hotel was an easy choice for two reasons. First, it's right across from Tokyo Disneyland, which makes getting to the park incredibly convenient. But more importantly, it has character-themed rooms, and I absolutely wanted to stay in one!
I was initially torn between Tinker Bell and Beauty and the Beast, but eventually went with Beauty and the Beast because that was the room I'd wanted from the beginning. And the hotel itself? It's HUGE. Even compared to the Disney hotels I've stayed at in Paris, the lobby at Tokyo Disneyland Hotel is incredibly grand. The enormous foyer makes quite the first impression, and I'm pretty sure you could get lost just trying to find your way around.
But beyond the beautiful lobby and the themed rooms, is Tokyo Disneyland Hotel actually worth staying at? And how does it compare to the Disney hotels in Paris?
Let's get into it!
In this review
Thinking about staying at another Disney hotel? Check out my review of Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta for another option right inside the park.
Let’s determine if staying here is worth it while we cover all aspects of the hotel, from the rooms to the location.
Here we go!
The Location
Location of Tokyo Disneyland Hotel
One of the biggest advantages of staying at Tokyo Disneyland Hotel is its location. It's literally right across from the entrance to Tokyo Disneyland, so you can practically roll out of bed and into the park. Well, maybe roll twice.
Getting to Tokyo Disney Resort from central Tokyo is pretty straightforward too. We'd spent the entire day walking around Tokyo, so we decided to take a taxi from The Tokyo EDITION, Toranomon rather than drag our suitcases around on public transportation. It took around 20 minutes and cost approximately ¥12,500 ($79 / €70), which I thought was worth it for the convenience. If you'd rather take public transportation, you can also get to the resort quite easily from Tokyo Station by train.
We spent our first two nights at Hotel MiraCosta as part of our Disney Vacation Package, then took the Disney Resort Line monorail to Tokyo Disneyland Hotel for one extra night before continuing our trip to Hakone. The monorail station is right outside the hotel, which makes getting between Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea incredibly convenient, especially if you're planning to visit both parks.
But for me, the best part is being able to walk straight back to your hotel after a long day at Disneyland. No waiting for transportation or making your way back into Tokyo. You're practically at your doorstep the moment you leave the park.
The Rooms
Our Beauty and the Beast Character Room
I honestly don't know where to start with this room because my jaw practically dropped when we walked in. The Beauty and the Beast theming is SO incredibly well done. And I don't mean that there's a picture of Belle hanging on the wall and Disney decided that was enough to call it a themed room. (Looking at you, Disneyland Paris.)
The theming is literally everywhere.
And the best part is that the longer you spend in the room, the more details you notice. You'll spot something while walking around, take a closer look, and suddenly discover another little reference to the movie that you hadn't noticed before. It's genuinely impressive how much thought has gone into the design, and I could have spent ages just looking around.
Beyond the theming, the room itself was spacious, the beds were comfortable, and everything was very well maintained. Especially considering how much use Disney hotel rooms must get, I thought it was in excellent condition.
Now, the bathroom is where I have a small complaint.
For the price you're paying, I do think the bathrooms could feel a little more luxurious. But I've noticed this at Hotel MiraCosta and pretty much every Disneyland Paris hotel I've stayed at too. Disney seems to prefer keeping its bathrooms fairly minimal, which I suspect is a deliberate design choice. At least ours had Mrs. Potts wallpaper and stained-glass-inspired details from Beauty and the Beast, so a win is a win!
One thing that did take a little figuring out was the coffee machine. Or rather, the lack of one. Instead, the room had this interesting individual coffee filter system, almost like a tea bag, except it's a little filter you use to brew each cup of coffee. It took some translating of the instructions before we figured out how to use it properly, but the coffee was actually surprisingly good!
Are the Character-Themed Rooms Worth the Extra Money?
In my opinion, a thousand percent, yes!
Honestly, I think the character-themed rooms are one of the biggest reasons to choose Tokyo Disneyland Hotel.
Of course, other Disney parks have themed accommodations too, but in my experience, they're often much more expensive suites, and even then, the theming isn't necessarily as elaborate as what you'll find here. Considering how much effort has gone into every little detail, I think these rooms offer something you genuinely don't get at most other Disney hotels, especially at this price point.
If you're already planning to spend the money on staying at Tokyo Disneyland Hotel, I'd absolutely recommend booking one of the character-themed rooms if you can. For me, it made the experience that much more special.
Food & Dining
Tokyo Disneyland Hotel has three dining options: Sherwood Garden Restaurant, which serves buffet-style meals, Canna for a more formal dining experience, and Dreamers Lounge, where you can enjoy drinks, light meals, and afternoon tea.
We didn't actually eat at any of them, though, because we decided to make the most of our time in the park instead.
For dinner, we ate at Blue Bayou Restaurant inside Tokyo Disneyland, which I really liked! The restaurant is actually part of the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, so you can watch the boats float past while you're eating. If you're a fan of the ride, it's definitely worth considering. Breakfast wasn't included in our hotel reservation, and we decided to skip that too.
Instead, there's a little supermarket-style shop called Looking Glass Gifts on the ground floor, where you can pick up sandwiches, bento boxes, onigiri, salads, snacks, coffee, and other drinks.
With so many quick options available downstairs, we didn't really see a reason to pay extra for a hotel breakfast. Especially when you've got a full day at Disney ahead of you, sometimes you just want to grab something and get going!
Facilities, Amenities & Hotel Perks
One of the biggest advantages of staying at Tokyo Disneyland Hotel is access to Happy Entry, which allows eligible guests to enter Tokyo Disneyland before regular admission. We didn't actually use this perk because we had a Disney Vacation Package, so we decided to take our time in the morning instead.
But there's another service I absolutely loved, especially if you're planning to stay at more than one Disney hotel: the luggage transfer!
As I mentioned earlier, we spent our first two nights at Hotel MiraCosta as part of our Vacation Package and booked an additional night at Tokyo Disneyland Hotel so we wouldn't have to travel all the way back to Tokyo after a full day at DisneySea. And moving between the two hotels couldn't have been easier.
On the morning of our checkout from MiraCosta, we filled out a luggage transfer request through the TV in our room. The hotel then took care of moving our suitcases to Tokyo Disneyland Hotel, where they would be waiting in our new room after the 3 PM check-in time.
I always travel with a SmartTag in my suitcase, so naturally, I had to check where our luggage was. Around noon, I could actually see it moving from MiraCosta to Tokyo Disneyland Hotel, and sure enough, when we arrived at our new room around 3 PM, everything was already there.
I think this is such a fantastic service. You don't have to drag your luggage onto the monorail, arrange transportation between hotels, or waste any of your park time worrying about your suitcases. If you're thinking about splitting your stay between different Tokyo Disney hotels, this makes it incredibly easy to do so!
As for the other facilities, Tokyo Disneyland Hotel also has an outdoor swimming pool, although it was already closed for the season when we visited, so we didn't get to use it.
The Verdict: is Tokyo Disneyland Hotel worth it?
Before our stay, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect from Tokyo Disneyland Hotel. I'd read quite a few mixed reviews online, and most seemed to agree that when it comes to Tokyo Disney hotels, it doesn't really get much better than Hotel MiraCosta. Well, I'm going to have to disagree!
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved our room at MiraCosta, especially having that incredible view over Mediterranean Harbor. But beyond the room itself, I didn't think the rest of the hotel was particularly memorable.
Tokyo Disneyland Hotel, on the other hand? WOW. The entire hotel is just so incredibly grand. From the enormous lobby and its high ceilings to all the little details you start noticing as you walk around, it's absolutely beautiful. And unlike MiraCosta, where the room was the highlight of our stay, I loved the hotel itself just as much as our Beauty and the Beast room.
Even something as simple as the little food shop downstairs made a difference. At MiraCosta, the gift shop had a few instant noodles and not much else in terms of quick meals, whereas Tokyo Disneyland Hotel had plenty of options.
In fact, I wish we'd known about it earlier! On our first evening at MiraCosta, we couldn't find anywhere to have dinner because everything was fully booked. Had we known about the shop at Tokyo Disneyland Hotel, we could have easily hopped on the monorail and picked something up there instead.
So, is Tokyo Disneyland Hotel worth staying at?
Absolutely!
I loved the hotel, I loved our Beauty and the Beast room, and I genuinely think the character-themed rooms make it worth choosing over many other Disney hotels. Would I stay here again? Without a doubt. Although next time, I think it's only fair that the Tinker Bell room gets her turn. 🧚
