Tokyo Disney Vacation Packages: What to Know and Consider Before You Book
“To all who come to this happy place: Welcome.”
Planning a trip to Tokyo Disney sounds exciting — but once you start looking into it, it can feel overwhelming. There are so many options, and of course, you want to get everything just right. After seeing the crowds, the long lines, and people waiting at the entrance gates, there’s a good chance you’ve already started looking into Tokyo Disney Vacation Packages for a bit more peace of mind.
Part of what makes it feel overwhelming is that it’s not as flexible as some other Disney parks. If you’ve been to Disneyland Paris, you might be used to deciding things last-minute, like buying fast passes on the day itself. At Tokyo Disney, a lot of that needs to be planned in advance if you want to make the most of your visit.
That’s where Tokyo Disney Vacation Packages come in. They’re a great option if you want more peace of mind, as they combine your hotel stay, park tickets, and extra benefits into one booking. But preparing to get one can also feel overwhelming, especially when you’re trying to understand how everything works.
So in this guide, I’m breaking everything down in a simple way — what’s included, how it works, and what to consider before booking.
Already know the basics and just need help with the booking process? I’ve created a step-by-step guide that walks you through exactly what to do and how to prepare.
Ready? Let’s go! Here’s everything you should know and pay attention to when booking Vacation Packages for Tokyo Disney
1. Why choose a Tokyo Disney Vacation Package (and what’s included)
Before getting into how to book, it’s important to understand why so many people choose a Tokyo Disney Vacation Package in the first place. At first glance, it might just look like a hotel + ticket bundle. But the main reason most people (myself included) choose a package is because of the ride access.
The main advantage: ride access without the stress
Tokyo Disney is known for its long wait times. For popular attractions, queues can easily take a couple of hours.
Without a Vacation Package, you have two options:
wait in line
or try to get access on the day itself through the app
While the app option is possible, it’s not guaranteed — especially for the most popular rides. With a Vacation Package, you can select time slots in advance for certain attractions. This means you already know you’ll be able to experience them, without having to rush or rely on luck.
Some of the rides this can apply to include:
Enchanted tales of Beauty and the Beast
Anna & Elsa’s Frozen Journey
Tangled
This is the biggest reason why many people (myself included) decide to book one.
In addition to that, every package includes:
a stay at a Disney hotel
park tickets
access to select attractions
and additional perks depending on the package
You can view the full overview of all packages and the benefits here. There are also smaller extras like food and drink vouchers, but for me, the main benefit is the ride access and the overall peace of mind that comes with it.
2. Where and when to book your Tokyo Disney Vacation Package
If you want to book a Tokyo Disney Vacation Package, everything starts on the official website:
Tokyo Disney Resort Online Reservations & Tickets
https://reserve.tokyodisneyresort.jp/en/
This is the only place where you can:
view available Vacation Packages
select your travel dates
choose your hotel and room type
complete your booking
The Vacation Packages usually go on sale around 6 months in advance. However, the exact timing isn’t fixed, so you’ll need to keep an eye on the official updates on the news page.
Tokyo Disney Resort News page
https://reserve.tokyodisneyresort.jp/en/sp/news/list/
This page is updated regularly with new release dates for Vacation Packages. Every couple of weeks, new months are announced.
From my experience, the timing can feel quite random. For example:
On March 5, it was announced that packages would go on sale on March 15 for August.
But for September, the update already came on March 26, with packages going on sale on
April 3.
Because of this, I recommend bookmarking the news page and checking it daily as you get closer to the 6-month mark of your travel month. If you’re aiming for a very specific date, hotel, or room type, it’s especially important to stay on top of this. The best options can sell out quickly once bookings open.
When you click on one of the news updates, you’ll see the exact date and time when the Vacation Packages will go on sale. In most cases, packages go on sale at 3:00 PM (Japan time) — but always double-check the announcement to be sure.
You’ll also see:
which travel dates are included in this period
which package types are available
and how long the packages are for (2-day or 3-day options, for example)
This is a great moment to already start preparing. You can go through the available options and decide which Vacation Package you want before booking opens.
3. Choosing the right Tokyo Disney Vacation Package
1. Start with the number of days
Most Vacation Packages are based on how many days you want to spend in the parks.
You’ll usually see options like:
2-day packages
3-day packages
2. Think about how you want to plan your days
There are also different ways those days are set up. For example, I booked:
“Enjoy Attractions and More — 3DAYS (Includes Park Tickets for Second and Third Day)”
This means:
Day 1 → arrival day (no park ticket)
Day 2 & 3 → park days
This setup works well if you’re already in Tokyo and want to arrive at Disney later in the day, check in, and start fresh the next morning.
You can also choose a package where your park days are earlier in your stay, for example:
Day 1 & 2 → park days
Day 3 → departure
Some packages also give you park access on all three days, instead of two. This is a great option if you want to spend as much time as possible inside the parks.
It really depends on your travel plans:
Do you want to arrive relaxed and start early the next day?
Or do you want to go straight into the parks?
I personally chose a setup with two park days, as I wanted to keep an extra day in Tokyo to explore the city.
There’s no right or wrong — it’s about what fits your trip best.
3. Consider adding extra nights or hotels
One thing I chose to do, and would definitely recommend considering, is booking an extra hotel night outside of the Vacation Package. For my trip, I booked two nights as part of my Vacation Package at Hotel MiraCosta, then added one extra night at Tokyo Disneyland Hotel in a Beauty and the Beast-themed room.
I didn’t feel like I needed another full day inside the parks, so this setup worked really well for me. It allowed me to experience two different hotels and end my trip in a more relaxed way, without having to travel straight after. Good to know: Disney hotels can transfer your luggage between hotels, which makes switching much easier.
4. Choosing your hotel and room type
Once you’ve chosen your Vacation Package, the next step is selecting your hotel and room type. Tokyo Disney has several official Disney hotels, and this is where things can really vary — in location, experience, and price.
1. Know your options
There are six official Disney hotels at Tokyo Disney Resort:
Tokyo Disneyland Hotel
Disney Ambassador Hotel
Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta
Tokyo Disney Resort Toy Story Hotel
Tokyo Disney Celebration Hotel
Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel
Each of these hotels offers a different experience, so it’s worth understanding the differences before you book. One of the biggest factors is location, as not all hotels are situated in the same area.
Some hotels are located inside or right next to the parks, such as Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta and Fantasy Springs Hotel. Others are within walking distance, while some are located further away and require a shuttle bus.
This can make a big difference during your trip. It affects how early you can get to the park, how easy it is to go back to your hotel during the day, and overall how relaxed your stay feels.
The hotels also vary quite a lot in price. At the higher end, Fantasy Springs Hotel is currently the most exclusive and typically the most expensive option, followed closely by Hotel MiraCosta, which is located inside DisneySea and is very popular.
In the mid-range, you’ll find Tokyo Disneyland Hotel and Disney Ambassador Hotel, which offer a balance between location, theming, and price.
If you’re looking for more budget-friendly options, Toy Story Hotel is a good middle ground, while Celebration Hotel is usually the most affordable choice, though it is located further away from the parks.
2. Choose your room type
Once you’ve chosen your hotel, the next step is selecting your room. Depending on the hotel, you’ll usually see a mix of standard rooms, themed rooms, and rooms with specific views. While they can look quite similar at first, the differences can be significant, especially in terms of location, views, and overall experience.
It’s also important to know that some room types are much more limited than others. The more unique or desirable the room, the faster it tends to sell out. For example, I went into booking knowing exactly which room I wanted: the MiraCosta Speciale Rooms & Suites Porto Paradiso Side: Balcony Room (Harbor View). There are only a few of these rooms available, and they are some of the most popular options across all hotels, which means they sell out almost immediately. Because of that, I made sure to have a backup option: the Harbor View rooms without the balcony.
3. Most importantly: have a backup plan
Having a backup option is really important when booking a Tokyo Disney Vacation Package. In my case, I didn’t get into the booking site right away. I ended up in a waiting room for about 45 minutes — something I hadn’t expected, as I assumed it would be more of a refresh situation. By the time I got access to the booking site, it was about 15 minutes after packages went on sale, and my first choice of room was already gone.
Want to learn from my mistakes? I’ve put together a step-by-step booking guide that walks you through the process and what to expect on booking day.
This is exactly why it’s important to have your first choice but also be ready with a backup. It makes the process much less stressful and gives you a much better chance of securing a room you’re happy with.
5. Restaurants and dining options
When booking your Tokyo Disney Vacation Package, you’ll also have the option to reserve restaurants in advance. This is something you’ll choose during the booking process, so it’s worth thinking about it beforehand. You can book breakfast, lunch, and dinner, either at your hotel or inside the parks. You can browse all restaurants here.
Breakfast is one of the first things to sell out, especially at the hotels. If this is something you care about, it’s a good idea to already think about where and when you’d like to go. There are also options to pre-book room service for breakfast and dinner. These can fill up quickly as well, so if you’re interested in this, it helps to decide in advance and have a backup option ready.
For lunch and dinner, you have a bit more flexibility. You can reserve table-service restaurants, but you can also choose “no reservation” if you prefer to stay flexible. I personally chose to book breakfast and dinner, and leave lunch open so I could explore more freely during the day without being tied to a specific time.
A quick tip
Before booking opens, it helps to have your dining plans ready and decide which ones you’d rather keep flexible. It’s a small thing, but it will speed up the booking process tremendously.
6. What to keep in mind before booking (preparation is key)
By now, you’ve probably noticed that planning a Tokyo Disney Vacation Package takes a bit more preparation than expected — and that’s completely normal. There are a lot of options, and it’s easy to feel like you need to figure everything out at once. But you don’t. The most important thing is to go in with a clear idea of what you want.
Some options may already be sold out
One thing I saw come up a lot when researching is people saying they “couldn’t find” certain hotels or room types. In most cases, this doesn’t mean the option isn’t there — it usually means it has already sold out. Some of the most popular options can disappear very quickly once booking opens.
Do a test run before booking day
One thing that really helped me was doing a test run of the booking process in advance. I went through the full flow on a random date first, just to understand what options were available and how everything worked. Then, the day before booking opened, I did it again to plan my final choices.
One thing to be aware of is that the search results are often filtered by default to show “available only.” This means you’ll only see options that are still available. When doing your test run, it’s helpful to remove this filter (it’s right below the search bar). That way, you can also see options that have already sold out and check if those are things you’d be interested in.
I also wrote everything down — from my package and hotel to my preferred times — so I didn’t have to think about what to click during the booking process. This makes a big difference, because if you take too long, the system can freeze. And if that happens, you’ll have to start over.
Final thought
The more you prepare in advance, the smoother the whole process will feel. If you already know what you want, the next step is making sure you’re ready when booking opens.
As mentioned before, I’ve created a step-by-step guide that walks you through exactly what to do, what to prepare, and what to expect during booking — so you can go in fully prepared.
