Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta Review
“Who says that my dreams have to stay just my dreams?”
One of the things I was most excited about when planning our trip to Japan was finally visiting Tokyo DisneySea. And since it's the only DisneySea park in the world, I obviously wanted to make the most of it, including staying at one of its hotels.
Now, the difficult part was deciding which hotel to book. I was torn between Fantasy Springs Hotel and Hotel MiraCosta, but eventually chose MiraCosta because I wanted a room overlooking Mediterranean Harbor. It's probably the most recognizable part of DisneySea, and being able to watch everything, including the evening show, happening in the park from our own room sounded pretty amazing.
The only problem? Getting one of those harbor-view rooms was as difficult as getting Eras Tour tickets. So, looking back at all the effort and stress it took to book this room, was staying at Hotel MiraCosta actually worth it?
I'll tell you…

Thinking about staying at another Disney hotel? Check out my review of Tokyo Disneyland Hotel for another option right across the entrance.
Let’s determine if staying here is worth it while we cover all aspects of the hotel, from the rooms to the location.
Here we go!
The Location
One of the best things about Hotel MiraCosta is its location. It's right next to the entrance of Tokyo DisneySea, so getting to the park couldn't be easier.
We took a taxi directly from The Tokyo EDITION, Toranomon, which took around 20 minutes and cost approximately €70 ($80 / ¥12,000).
The hotel actually has its own entrance to DisneySea, but unfortunately, it was closed when we were there. Not that it made much difference, since the main entrance is literally a two-minute walk away.
And if you're visiting Tokyo Disneyland as well, the Disney Resort Line monorail station is right next to the hotel. Tickets cost ¥300 (around $2) per person, per ride, so getting between the parks is super easy too.
The Rooms
When we arrived at Hotel MiraCosta, a cast member was already waiting by the entrance to help us with our luggage. We initially went to the main reception, but since we'd booked a Tokyo Disney Vacation Package, we were escorted to a lounge on the fourth floor instead.
The check-in process reminded me a little of the Castle Club at Disneyland Paris, since we could sit down and grab something to drink while everything was taken care of. I'm not entirely sure whether this was included because of our Vacation Package or the room category we'd booked, but it was a nice way to start our stay.
And then it was finally time to see our room! We stayed in room 5315, and remember, I really had no idea what to expect. So when we opened the door and I saw Mount Prometheus right outside our window, my jaw genuinely dropped. We'd arrived around 5 PM, just as the sun was setting, and the view was absolutely incredible.
Luckily, the room itself was lovely too. It was spacious, with two separate beds and plenty of room to move around. There were also some really cute Disney details, including Mickey and Donald in pirate-themed artwork, which I thought worked perfectly with the hotel's design.
Now, I feel like I'm going to say this in every Disney hotel review I write, regardless of where in the world it is, but I really wish they'd put a little more effort into the bathrooms. At this point, I'm starting to think it's intentional because it seems to be a worldwide Disney hotel phenomenon.
As for the beds, they were comfortable, although a little firmer than I usually prefer. But I noticed that quite a few hotels we stayed at in Japan had firmer mattresses than I'm used to in Europe, so perhaps that's simply a matter of preference.
Is It Worth Booking a Harbor-View Room at Hotel MiraCosta?
For me, absolutely! The harbor view was the main reason I booked Hotel MiraCosta in the first place.
What made it even better was that on our first evening, we got to watch the nighttime show right from our room. Being able to enjoy the show overlooking Mediterranean Harbor without having to find a spot in the park was pretty amazing.
Of course, harbor-view rooms are more expensive and can be difficult to book, but if your budget allows it, I'd definitely recommend getting one. It's what made our stay at MiraCosta so memorable.
Food & Dining
Our original plan was to have dinner in Tokyo before heading to Hotel MiraCosta, but after a late lunch at the Pokémon Café (which, by the way, had some of the worst food I've ever eaten, but that's a story for my Pokémon Café review, we decided we'd rather have a proper meal once we arrived at the hotel.
The problem? We'd booked an extra night at MiraCosta before our Tokyo Disney Vacation Package park days began, which meant we couldn't enter DisneySea to grab something to eat. And since we just wanted to check in and settle into our room, heading out again wasn't exactly appealing.
We first considered ordering room service, but everything was already fully booked. Luckily, Hotel MiraCosta has three restaurants, and hotel guests get priority seating, so we figured there would surely be something available.
Boy, were we wrong... The earliest available table was at 8:30 PM, and since the hotel gift shop only seemed to have instant noodles, we didn't have many other options.
We ended up eating at Oceano, the hotel's Mediterranean-style buffet restaurant, which cost around €40 ($46 / ¥7,000) per person, excluding drinks. Unfortunately, the food wasn't particularly good, and I really wish we'd had another option.
I'd actually read about people having similar problems on Reddit before our trip, but since our plans had changed that afternoon, I hadn't wanted to commit to a restaurant reservation in advance. Looking back, I probably should have.
My Tip: Where to Get Food Without Entering DisneySea
Now, here's something I wish we'd known before arriving at MiraCosta.
After moving to Tokyo Disneyland Hotel two days later, we discovered that it has a small convenience store called Looking Glass Gifts, where you can buy sandwiches, onigiri, salads, drinks (including beer), and plenty of other things for a quick meal.
So, if you're staying at MiraCosta and find yourself in the same situation, just take the Disney Resort Line monorail over to Tokyo Disneyland Hotel and pick up something there. A one-way ticket costs ¥300 (around $2), and you can pay with your Suica or PASMO card.
Breakfast at Hotel MiraCosta
When booking Hotel MiraCosta, including through a Tokyo Disney Vacation Package, you can also reserve a time slot for breakfast. We ended up with an 8 AM reservation, which was a little earlier than I would've liked, but the later slots were already taken.
To be fair, breakfast was surprisingly quiet, especially compared to Disneyland Paris. Something I noticed throughout our trip to Japan was that restaurants didn't seem to be filled to the point where you could barely move between tables.
The one exception was Park Hyatt Kyoto, where breakfast was practically a zoo, with children running around and screaming everywhere. Which is quite funny, considering you'd expect that at a Disney hotel rather than a Park Hyatt. But anyway, back to breakfast.
The selection at MiraCosta was fairly limited. There were eggs, pastries, coffee, and a few other breakfast options. One thing I thought was interesting was that the staff also came around with freshly roasted beef, which they'd carve for you at the table.
I don't eat meat, so I didn't try it, but I noticed roast beef appearing on quite a few menus throughout our Tokyo Disney Resort trip. Apparently, Tokyo Disney really likes its roast beef!
Celebrating a Birthday at Hotel MiraCosta
If you're celebrating a birthday or another special occasion at Hotel MiraCosta, you can also arrange a little surprise in the room.
My partner actually organized one for me without me knowing. When we came back to our room that evening, there was champagne, flowers, and a cake waiting for me, which was such a lovely surprise.
He told me afterward that he'd arranged everything by contacting the hotel through our booking confirmation email, so if you're planning something similar, that's probably the easiest way to organize it.
Facilities, Amenities & Hotel Perks
One of the perks of staying at Hotel MiraCosta is Happy Entry, which lets you enter the Disney parks a little earlier than everyone else. Depending on the park and schedule, you can get in up to 15 minutes early, although you can't use it on your check-in day.
The hotel also has a pool area called Terme Venezia, with indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a whirlpool, and a sauna. We'd actually planned to spend one of our evenings at the pool, but unfortunately, that didn't work out. The outdoor pool had already closed for the season, and the indoor pool closes at 6 PM. Since we were spending most of our time at the parks, we never managed to make it there. Which was a shame because it looked really nice in the pictures, but between swimming and spending more time at DisneySea, the park was always going to win.
Something I only discovered afterward is that pool access isn't included in the room rate. It costs ¥3,000 (around $20) per adult outside summer and ¥4,000 (around $27) during summer, which I find a little surprising considering the price of the hotel.
There's also a gift shop called MickeyAngelo Gifts, where you can buy Disney merchandise and Hotel MiraCosta souvenirs. Most of what I remember seeing were things like Mickey-shaped biscuits and other sweets with the MiraCosta logo.
Also, one thing I really loved was how easy it was to transfer our luggage to Tokyo Disneyland Hotel, where we stayed after MiraCosta. When checking out, you can arrange the transfer directly through the TV in your room. We requested that our suitcases be delivered to Tokyo Disneyland Hotel, and they were waiting for us there after 3 PM. We even tracked them using our SmartTag, mostly because we were curious to see where they were. It meant we could spend the entire day at the parks and head straight to our next hotel afterward without having to worry about our luggage.
The Verdict: is Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta worth it?
After all the stress of booking that harbor-view room, was Hotel MiraCosta worth it? Absolutely!
I've stayed at Disney hotels with park views before, including a room overlooking Cinderella Castle, but MiraCosta was a completely different experience. Waking up overlooking Mediterranean Harbor, seeing the park before the crowds arrived, and even spotting the Disney characters lining up to welcome everyone in the morning was so much fun.
And then there was the nighttime show. Watching it from our room was probably one of my favorite memories from the entire trip. From above, you could see all the boats moving around the harbor at once, which gives you a completely different perspective than watching it from inside the park. That alone made the room worth booking.
I also have to mention how incredibly well organized everything was. From the moment we arrived, everyone knew exactly where to guide us, check-in was taken care of, and even transferring our luggage to the next hotel was incredibly easy. Everything just worked.
Now, here's where my partner and I disagree. We also stayed at Tokyo Disneyland Hotel, and while he preferred MiraCosta, I actually liked Disneyland Hotel a little more. I loved the nautical details at MiraCosta, but Disneyland Hotel felt more glamorous and grand to me. Neither is necessarily better, though. I think it really comes down to which atmosphere you prefer.
Would I stay at MiraCosta again? Definitely. I loved celebrating my birthday here, and the hotel itself was fantastic. But next time, I'd probably book Fantasy Springs Hotel instead, simply because I'm curious to experience something different.
And if you're wondering whether a harbor-view room at MiraCosta is worth the effort and extra money, my answer is definitely yes. If you don't mind the extra stress of trying to book one, I'd absolutely recommend it. It's an experience I'm really glad I didn't miss.
