Luxury Haircare That’s Worth the Investment (My Long-Term Routine)
“I think that the most important thing a woman can have- next to talent, of course- is her hairdresser.”
There was a time when I had really thick, healthy hair without even thinking about it. As a teenager, it just was. Then I reached that phase where I couldn’t quite decide who I wanted to be — blonde or brunette or anything in between. Cue fifteen years of back and forth. Blonde in the summer, brunette in the winter. A new version of myself twice a year.
I loved it. I genuinely did. There’s something fun about changing your hair and stepping into a slightly different identity. But what I didn’t love was what it slowly did to my hair health. The worst it ever got? The day I decided to fully commit to being Elsa and bleach my hair icy blonde. I won’t lie — I pulled it off. But my hair was absolutely destroyed. Dry, fragile, and far from the thick, healthy hair I used to have.
Then the pandemic hit. Everything shut down. No salons. No seasonal transformations. I was quite literally forced to embrace my natural hair color. And unexpectedly, I stuck with it. I still think about dyeing it again from time to time — changing your hair can be fun, and doing it occasionally won’t automatically ruin it. But over-bleaching absolutely does. After years of switching back and forth, my hair needed a reset.
Since then, I’ve taken a much more intentional approach. Less experimenting. More consistency. Fewer quick fixes. More long-term thinking.
Everything in this routine is something I purchased myself. Nothing sponsored. Over the years I’ve tried a lot — different shampoos, tools, treatments, brushes. These are the few that actually stayed. The ones that made a real difference.
One more thing before we begin.
I recently found out that I have an iron deficiency. Low iron can impact hair health (and even your nails), and it was a reminder that no product can fix what’s happening internally. If you’re struggling with shedding or thinning, it might be worth checking your levels first. You can use the best products in the world, but if your internal health isn’t optimal, it will show. With that said, Let’s dive in!
This is my long-term routine and the luxury haircare products that have genuinely been worth the investment:
The Dyson Supersonic: Still Worth It Years Later
I was skeptical at first. Mostly because I had heard mixed stories about the Airwrap, and I genuinely couldn’t imagine why anyone would spend that amount of money on a hair dryer. A styling tool? Maybe. But a dryer?
Then I “cheated” on my regular hairdresser while on vacation. The stylist — who had no idea about my long history of back-and-forth dyeing — took one look at my hair and casually mentioned that it showed signs of heat damage. That comment stuck with me.
At that point, I had already stopped bleaching and gone back to my natural color. I was trying to be more intentional. So I thought: you know what, let’s remove one more potential source of damage and see what happens. And that’s when I bought the Dyson Supersonic.
It’s genuinely a great tool. And unlike what some people expect from the Airwrap hype, this one simply does what it’s supposed to do, incredibly well. It dries your hair very fast, but without leaving it feeling stripped or overly dry. My hair feels smoother after blow-drying, not brittle. Over time, that difference adds up.
It’s not about magic. It’s about consistent, gentler heat and efficiency. And for me, that’s exactly what made it worth the investment.
The Mason Pearson Brush: My Everyday Favorite
This is another product I really didn’t expect to love as much as I do — unfortunately, because my new best friend comes with a rather hefty price tag. For years, I used a Tangle Teezer. And while it did the job, I always felt like it somehow made my hair greasy faster, even though I cleaned the brush weekly. Something about it just didn’t feel great long-term.
Then, during Black Friday, I spotted a deal on the Mason Pearson and decided to finally try it. I needed a new brush anyway, so I thought, let’s see if the hype is actually justified. In my opinion, it absolutely is.
The Mason Pearson brush detangles gently and distributes your natural oils through the lengths of your hair, which leaves it looking softer and noticeably shinier. There’s no harsh tugging, no snapping, no pulling at fragile ends. It just feels… refined. It’s also incredibly sturdy and easy to maintain. I’ve had mine for three years now, and it still looks almost new. It doesn’t feel like something you replace every couple of seasons, butit feels like something that lasts a lifetime.
Slip Slipsilk Hair Ties, Pillowcase and Turban
I actually started my more intentional haircare journey with silk hair ties.
My hair is up most of the time, and regular elastics always caused two problems: my hair would get stuck in them, and I’d be left with visible dents after taking it down. Over time, that constant tension just didn’t feel great for my hair. So I switched to silk hair ties, and I haven’t looked back.
Yes, they’re an investment (especially considering my cat seems to think they’re his to play with), but if you don’t lose them, they last surprisingly long. More importantly, they don’t tug or cause breakage the way regular elastics can. It’s one of those small changes that quietly protects your hair every single day.
The pillowcase was the next step in my Slip journey. I’ll admit, this one is just as much about skincare as it is about hair. But it does make a difference, especially if you’re dealing with frizz or tangling overnight. There’s noticeably less friction, and my hair feels smoother in the morning. And beyond the functional side of it, it’s simply very comfortable to sleep on. (I go into much more detail in my dedicated Slip post)
The silk turban is probably the most “extra” step in this routine — and I’ll be honest, I don’t wear it as consistently as I should. Pure laziness, no other excuse. But on the nights I do use it, the difference the next morning is immediate. My hair feels incredibly soft and more controlled, especially at the ends.
Grow Gorgeous
Over the years, I’ve tried almost every luxury shampoo you can think of. Truly — you name it, I’ve probably had it in my shower at some point.
I’ve always liked brands like Kérastase and Redken. They perform well and feel salon-grade. But I recently learned that L’Oréal-owned brands still test on animals, and for me, that’s simply not something I want to support. So I decided to switch.
My first stop was the Christophe Robin Delicate Volumizing Shampoo — yes, the one we recently discovered Taylor Swift had in her bathroom during the Eras tour. It’s beautiful, it smells lovely, and it feels elevated. But if I’m being honest, it didn’t really transform my hair in any noticeable way.
I do still use the Christophe Robin Purifying Shampoo about once every two weeks to remove build-up. It’s excellent as a clarifying treatment and leaves my scalp feeling very clean without stripping everything. But for my usual routine, I’ve landed on Grow Gorgeous.
The formulas are lightweight, smell great, and, most importantly, genuinely give my hair more volume. That was something the Christophe Robin shampoo didn’t quite deliver for me. My hair feels bouncier at the roots and less flat overall. Another major plus: the entire range is vegan, which was an important factor in my decision. It’s nice to find something that aligns with your values and actually performs.
I’ve also tried the oil and the split-end serum. I’ll be honest, I’m not the most consistent person when it comes to treatments, so I don’t use them as regularly. But the shampoo and conditioner? They’ve earned a permanent spot in my shower.
If you’re looking for haircare that adds a subtle volume boost without feeling heavy, this is the one I’d recommend.
Building a routine like this didn’t happen overnight. It took trial and error, a few questionable hair decisions, and learning that there isn’t one universal solution. What works for my hair might not work for yours — and that’s okay. Hair health is personal, and it takes time to figure out what truly supports your hair type, lifestyle, and priorities.
These are simply the products that earned their place in my long-term routine. I hope this post helps you decide which of these investments might be right for you.
I’ve been searching for a new mascara that wouldn’t irritate my sensitive eyes, and after hearing so much about Victoria Beckham Beauty’s Vast Lash, I finally tried it myself. Here’s my experience: how it looks, how it wears, how it removes, and how it compares to CHANEL Le Volume. If you’ve been curious whether it’s actually worth it, this might help.
