Newport Bay Club Review: Best Mid-Range Disneyland Paris Hotel?

There’s nothing too good for my best pals!

Booking a trip to Disneyland Paris is exciting enough on its own, but choosing where to stay can feel like part of the fun. For me, staying at a Disney hotel was always the ultimate childhood dream. Being close to the parks, seeing the hotel when you arrive, and knowing the Disney day starts the moment you wake up somehow felt almost as exciting as going into the parks themselves.

Now that I have adult money and highly questionable priorities, that dream has simply turned into booking Disney hotels whenever I can justify it. After already staying at Disneyland Hotel Paris—both in a standard room and in the Castle Club—it felt like the right time to branch out and start trying the other on-site options.

Because I’m an absolute sucker for good theming, Disney's Newport Bay Club quickly caught my attention. Inspired by classic New England seaside resorts, the hotel is one of the largest at Disneyland Paris, with over 1,000 rooms, a lakeside setting, and nautical details throughout. It also comes in at a much more attractive price point than the Disneyland Hotel, which definitely helped.

It’s also worth noting that, unlike some of the other Disney hotels, this is one of the only larger properties that hasn’t had a major top-to-bottom refurbishment in recent years. So while the hotel has plenty of charm and strong theming, that also explains why opinions online can be a little mixed.

That said, once I booked, I started second-guessing myself. I’d seen plenty of TikToks calling it outdated. True, it’s worth noting that unlike some of the other Disney hotels, Disney's Newport Bay Club is one of the only larger properties that hasn’t had a major top-to-bottom refurbishment in recent years.. but it can’t be that bad, right? With some people saying they’d rather stay at Disney Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel instead, I briefly considered switching, but decided to stick with my original booking and see for myself.

So, was that the right choice? Let’s find out….

Ready? All Aboard! Let’s determine if staying here is worth it while we cover all aspects of the hotel, from the rooms to the location:

The Location

Disneyland Paris Newport Bay Club Entrance

When it comes to location, Disney's Newport Bay Club is a convenient option whether you’re arriving by car or train. We came by car, and the route was pretty straightforward. Once you take the Marne-la-Vallée exit from the motorway, you simply follow the signs for the Disney Hotels. Disney's Newport Bay Club is one of the first hotels you’ll see, so there’s no driving around the resort trying to figure out where to go after a long journey.

If you’re arriving by train, Marne-la-Vallée–Chessy Station is the main station for Disneyland Paris, and shuttle buses run between the station and the Disney hotels throughout the day, stopping at all the major properties.

The hotel has a large parking area, and you can usually park close to the entrance, which is especially helpful if you’re carrying luggage, traveling with children, or arriving tired after the drive. Keep your booking confirmation nearby, as security may ask to see it before letting you into the hotel area. You’ll also go through airport-style bag screening when entering the hotel itself, which is standard across the resort.

Inside, Compass Club guests have a separate reception area on the left-hand side of the lobby, while the main reception is on the right. Since we were staying in the Compass Club, we could leave our luggage there and have it brought up to the room later, which made arrival much smoother. A practical tip: if you’re not staying Club level and arrive well before check-in, the hotel often recommends leaving your luggage in the car if possible. It can save time, as luggage storage lines sometimes get quite long.

Once your room is ready, you’ll receive a text message with your room number and can head straight there, opening the door with your phone. If you’d rather have a physical key card, you can also stop by reception and ask for one. I’d actually recommend doing that anyway, as it makes a fun souvenir to take home.

Getting to the parks is simple. You leave Disney's Newport Bay Club, walk past Lake Disney, continue through Disney Village, and then arrive at the park gates. I know a lot of people mention that the walk feels long, so I timed it myself. For me, it took 17 minutes. I should mention that I don’t have children, so I can imagine it takes longer with a stroller or tired little legs, but for adults walking at a normal pace, it felt very manageable.

What I actually preferred here, compared to Disneyland Hotel Paris, was how peaceful it felt. At the Disneyland Hotel, you are right at the entrance to the park, which is amazing in many ways—but it also means you’re in the middle of everything. Music continues, the area stays active, and especially with the Castle Club rooms, I wouldn’t recommend sleeping with the balcony door open, as they clean the parks during the night.

At Disney's Newport Bay Club, the setting felt much calmer. You can open the window and hear very little, and after a busy park day, that quiet was something I really appreciated. If you get overstimulated easily, like having a moment to decompress, or simply want your hotel to feel more like a retreat after the parks, this is a very strong option.

The Rooms

Let’s move on to the rooms. I decided to book Compass Club. After getting a taste of the perks of the Castle Club rooms at the Disneyland Hotel a year earlier, I’d become a bit attached to the extra convenience that comes with Club-level rooms. Things like a smoother check-in, avoiding long reception lines, and having breakfast included in a calmer setting can make a Disney trip feel much easier, especially during busy periods. I’ll get into the breakfast later.

At Disney's Newport Bay Club, Compass Club rooms also come with better room locations, including guaranteed nicer views. We paid €1,027 for two nights for two people in a Compass Club room, including breakfast. We ended up in room 7274, and we really couldn’t have wished for a better view. Being able to lie in bed and look out over Lake Disney was really special.

What stood out most to me, though, was the theming. If you’re booking this hotel for the nautical New England style, I do think the rooms deliver. The theme runs through everything, from the furniture and colors to the decorative details. Even the TV had a cute little themed animation when you turned it on. Also, when you walk into the room, you’ll find gold chocolate coins on the bed with the hotel logo.

The beds were also very comfortable, which matters more than ever after long park days. Another thing I personally liked was that the windows open, and our balcony doors did too, so getting fresh air was easy. That might sound minor, but I always appreciate it.

Now, I do understand where some of the “outdated” comments online come from, and for me, that was mainly the bathroom. It wasn’t bad by any means, and most importantly, it was clean and perfectly functional, so this was never a dealbreaker. But yes, it does feel dated. The room itself still has charm because of the strong theming, but the bathroom is definitely the area where a refresh would make the biggest difference.

The Breakfast

Newport Bay Club Disneyland Paris Breakfast

Since we booked Compass Club, breakfast was served in the Compass Club lounge rather than the main restaurant, which I personally always prefer. It feels calmer, more relaxed, and saves you from the larger breakfast crowds that can come with a busy Disney hotel.

Breakfast is served from 7:00 to 11:00, which is useful whether you’re rushing to Extra Magic Time or planning a slower start.

When it comes to the food itself, there’s a lot to choose from. You’ve got all the usual breakfast options you’d expect—eggs, pastries, cereal, breads, fruit, and hot items—but also sweeter options like waffles and cakes. Honestly, whatever you feel like eating, they probably have some version of it.

A really fun detail is how many Mickey-shaped items they include throughout the buffet. It’s obviously not life-changing, but it does add that little Disney touch that makes breakfast feel more playful and part of the overall experience.

And I have to mention the coffee. Or more specifically, the little drawings on top of the coffee. Seeing Disney-style latte art first thing in the morning was far more exciting than it probably should have been, but I loved it. It’s one of those small details that doesn’t need to be there, yet somehow makes the whole breakfast feel more fun.

The Amenities

Disneyland Paris newport bay club pool

One of the main highlights is the indoor pool and spa area, which is especially nice if you’re visiting during cooler months or simply want a break from the parks for a few hours.

We visited in April, and the outdoor pool was still closed when we arrived. Because the weather turned out to be so good, they were opening it later that same afternoon. So if you’re visiting in spring, it’s worth checking rather than assuming it won’t be open.

The standout feature of the pool area is the large boat in the middle, which again shows how committed this hotel is to its nautical theme. Details like that make the property feel more playful and memorable rather than just another standard hotel. The theming really runs through everything here.

As for the water temperature, I’d say it was fair. Not especially warm, but definitely not cold either. Comfortable enough to swim in without issue, just not one of those extra-heated pools. There’s also a smaller jacuzzi-style pool if you’d rather warm up a bit and sit in the bubbles.

You’ll also find a spa area and hammam (steam room). If your legs need a reset, this is probably where you’ll end up. Another fun detail is that you can actually walk onto the boat, where there’s a giant life-size chessboard.

If you’re in the mood to shop, there’s also a hotel gift shop. They sell Disney's Newport Bay Club-themed souvenirs like mugs, as well as many of the same items you’ll find in the parks, including costumes, bag charms, and Disney clothing. So yes, the opportunity to keep spending money remains alive and well.

Oh, before I forget! it’s also worth mentioning that the Disney hotels often have scheduled character meet-and-greets in the lobby or reception area. When we were there, I saw Daisy Duck and Donald Duck, and guests could simply line up to take photos with them. I think a lot of people overlook this, but it’s a really good perk to keep in mind. Meeting a favorite character at the hotel can save you queue time in the parks and makes the hotel feel even more part of the Disney experience.

The Compass Club

I’ve mentioned the Compass Club here and there throughout this post, so you might be wondering what it actually is and whether it’s worth paying extra for. In short, it’s the club-level upgrade at Disney's Newport Bay Club, designed to give your stay a few extra comforts and access to some of the better room categories in the hotel.

The main perks include a dedicated check-in area, breakfast in the Compass Club lounge rather than the main restaurant, afternoon tea snacks and drinks during the day, and rooms in more desirable locations with nicer views. Depending on the category, that can mean overlooking Lake Disney or being in a quieter part of the hotel.

For me, the biggest draw was definitely the view. Waking up and looking out over the lake made the stay feel more special, and it’s one of the main reasons I’d consider booking Compass Club again. The rooms also tend to feel a little more premium overall simply because you’re booking into the higher categories.

The convenience side matters too. Disney hotels can be busy, especially during peak periods, so having a calmer place to check in and eat breakfast was a real plus. It won’t be necessary for everyone, but if you value a nicer room, a better view, and a smoother overall stay, it can be a very worthwhile upgrade.

The Verdict

Newport Bay Club Compass Club Rooms

I really enjoyed my stay at Disney's Newport Bay Club. I chose this hotel mainly because of the theming, and on that front, it absolutely delivered. If you like hotels that feel thought through and have a clear identity, this one does a great job. The nautical theme runs throughout the property, from the rooms to the pool area to the smaller decorative details, and it gives the hotel much more personality than a standard place to sleep near the parks.

I do understand where some of the dated comments come from, especially when it comes to the bathroom. That was the part of the room that felt most in need of an update, and I do hope Disney eventually gives the rooms at least a light refresh. If you look very closely, you might also notice small signs of wear here and there, like spots on the balcony where paint is fading or minor rust marks. But to be honest, I was only paying attention to those things because I had seen so many comments about it on Reddit and TikTok beforehand. If I hadn’t gone in looking for flaws, I genuinely don’t think I would have noticed.

What mattered more to me was that the room was clean, comfortable, and had a great view. I had a really good stay here, and the atmosphere of the hotel suited me much more than I expected.

The walking distance to the parks also wasn’t bad at all. In fact, I quite liked it. It gives you the chance to walk through Disney Village, where there are plenty of shops and merchandise you won’t always find inside the parks themselves. For me, that little walk became part of the experience rather than a downside.

I’d definitely recommend Disney's Newport Bay Club and think it’s a very good option if you prefer something a little more laid-back and removed from the constant busyness of the park, while still staying firmly inside the Disney bubble.

I hope this was helpful. If you have any more questions, you can always reach out here or on Instagram, and I’m more than happy to answer any of your questions. Happy Travels!
