Airelles Gordes Review: Ultimate Luxury in the Provence

The French air cleans up the brain and does good – a world of good.

Looking for a unique and luxurious hotel experience in one of the most beautiful villages in France? Then you’ve come to the right place. With a history dating back to Roman times and a role as a resistance stronghold during World War II, Gordes, a hilltop village in Provence, is known for its cobbled streets and honey-colored stone houses that feel like a step back in time. It’s no surprise it has been named one of the most beautiful villages in France.

Right in the heart of Gordes sits Airelles Gordes, La Bastide, a luxury hotel set inside a grand 16th-century building overlooking the Luberon Valley. The property is part of the Airelles collection, a French hospitality group known for transforming historic landmarks into distinctive five-star hotels while preserving their original character.

Over the years, I’ve stayed at quite a few luxury hotels across Europe—including several Airelles properties—and I can confidently say that Airelles operates on a completely different level than most hotels. The attention to detail, the service, and the overall experience consistently go far beyond what you typically expect, even in the luxury segment. But does that apply here as well?

In this post, I’ll share my experience staying at Airelles Gordes—from the rooms and restaurants to the overall atmosphere—so you can decide whether it’s worth adding to your upcoming travel list.

Here we go! Let’s determine if the stay was worth it while we cover all aspects of the hotel, from the rooms to the location:

The Location

Airelles Gordes is ideally located right in the heart of the village, making it easy to explore Gordes and its stunning surroundings. Gordes sits in the Luberon region of Provence in the south of France, an area known for its rolling hills, lavender fields, vineyards, and picturesque stone villages. It’s one of those places where simply wandering through the narrow streets already feels like an experience.

Situated on a hilltop overlooking the Luberon Valley, Gordes is often considered one of the most beautiful villages in Provence—and once you see the cascading stone houses and sweeping countryside views, it’s easy to understand why. From here, you’re also within easy reach of other well-known spots in the region like Roussillon, famous for its red ochre cliffs, and Abbaye Notre-Dame de Sénanque with its iconic lavender fields.

If you’re driving, the hotel is about an hour from Avignon or roughly 90 minutes from Marseille. The nearest airports are Avignon-Provence Airport (around a 40-minute drive) and Marseille Provence Airport (about 1.5 hours away). The hotel offers free valet parking, so you can hand over the keys without a second thought. And here’s a pleasant surprise: during your stay, they not only park your car but also wash and clean it—talk about VIP treatment.

If you’re planning a longer road trip through the south of France, the French Riviera is also within reach. Nice is about a 2.5 to 3-hour drive from Gordes, making it an easy next stop after exploring Provence. That’s exactly what I did on my trip, continuing on to stay at the legendary Hotel Le Negresco.

The Rooms

Airelles Gordes Rooms

The rooms at Airelles Gordes are more spacious than I expected, giving you enough room to unpack and still move around comfortably. We originally booked a Superior Room but were upgraded to a Deluxe Room upon arrival, which was a very nice surprise. The design blends classic Provençal style with subtle luxury touches, so the rooms feel elegant without being over the top.

The bathrooms are equally impressive. Each one comes with a Dyson hairdryer and a full range of Airelles-branded products—from lip balms and hand creams to shower gels and scrubs. What makes them extra special is that the scents are created specifically for each property, meaning every Airelles hotel has its own signature fragrance. I’ll admit something here: I usually never take bathroom products home with me from hotels. But this time I went full Ross because I loved them so much—and I genuinely hope Airelles will start selling them online one day because I need them in my life.

Another detail I really appreciated was the minibar. It’s completely free and stocked with a selection of local snacks and drinks, and it’s restocked daily during your stay. It’s a small thing, but those thoughtful touches are exactly what make Airelles stand out.

One design detail I always love in historic hotels is when modern technology is integrated in a subtle way. Here, the TV is hidden inside a mirror, so it doesn’t disrupt the aesthetic of the room or the overall atmosphere of the hotel.

The hotel itself has two sides: one overlooking the Luberon Valley and the other facing the main street of Gordes. We stayed on the street side and didn’t regret it at all. It’s surprisingly quiet, making it easy to get a good night’s sleep, and you can still enjoy the incredible valley views from the restaurants, pool area, and other parts of the hotel.

That said, if you do want the full postcard view of the valley from your room, it’s definitely worth considering one of the valley-facing rooms. They come at a higher price point, but if you’re planning to splurge, I do think it’s worth it. The view over the Luberon is absolutely stunning.

The Restaurant

La Table de la bastide gordes airelles

Airelles Gordes offers several dining options across the property, so whether you’re in the mood for a relaxed lunch or a more elevated dinner, there’s plenty to choose from.

The highlight is definitely La Table de la Bastide, which focuses on traditional French cuisine and overlooks the Luberon Valley. This is also where breakfast is served each morning, and it’s an à la carte experience rather than a traditional buffet. Starting the day with breakfast on the terrace with those sweeping valley views is pretty hard to beat. In the evening, the restaurant transforms into a refined dining setting where you can enjoy classic French dishes paired with spectacular scenery. If you only have time for one dinner at the hotel, I would definitely recommend La Table de la Bastide.

There are also several other restaurants on the property where you can enjoy lunch or dinner. During the day, you can have a more casual meal by the pool or simply order drinks and cocktails while soaking up the Provençal sun. It’s the kind of setting where you easily lose track of time.

When we visited, the hotel also had an Asian fusion restaurant called Le Tigrr. The location and concept were great, but if I’m honest, the food didn’t quite live up to the price point. I’ve since seen that the restaurant is permanently closed.

The good news is that a Beefbar location is set to open at the hotel in 2026. I’ve eaten at Beefbar in Paris before and really enjoyed it, so I’m curious to see how this new addition will fit into the dining lineup at Airelles Gordes.

The Amenities

Airelles Gordes Pool Outside Exterior

A pool with a view? Yes, please! Airelles Gordes offers several amenities to help you relax during your stay. There’s an indoor pool located in the spa, which is perfect if you’re looking for a quieter swim or a break from the Provençal sun. If you’re traveling with kids, there’s also a dedicated children’s pool.

But if I’m being honest, the real star of the show here is the outdoor pool. With views overlooking the Luberon Valley, it’s one of those places where it’s almost impossible to look away from the scenery. Whether you’re swimming, lounging with a drink, or simply sitting by the pool, the setting alone makes it easy to spend an entire afternoon here.

One detail I really loved was that during the day, one of the spa therapists walks around the pool area offering guests complimentary mini massages. You can enjoy a short massage right by the pool, which is such a nice touch and a great way to get a little preview of the spa treatments if you’re considering booking one.

The hotel also offers a few activities if you’re in the mood for something more social. There’s a bar where you can unwind in the evening, a pool table, and occasionally events like karaoke nights.

Beyond that, Airelles also organizes a range of experiences for guests, from romantic picnics to hot air balloon rides and other activities around Provence. We were only here for two days, so we didn’t get to explore these ourselves, but knowing Airelles and the level of detail they put into their experiences, I can only imagine they’re pretty magical.

But honestly, with views like this, it’s not hard to guess where most people end up spending most of their time.

The Verdict

To sum it up, Airelles Gordes blew away all my expectations—and I had pretty high ones, having stayed at another Airelles property in Versailles. From the moment you arrive, you'll be greeted with thoughtful gifts in your room, like eye masks, pajamas, and a notebook, and each night during turndown service, you'll find even more surprises. It’s these little touches that make the stay extra special. The staff is incredibly friendly, and the views of the valley are simply unmatched.

Overall, this has been one of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever had. If you’re looking for luxury, comfort, and unforgettable scenery, Airelles Gordes should be at the top of your list.

I hope this was helpful. If you have any more questions, you can always reach out here or on Instagram, and I’m more than happy to answer any of your questions. Happy Travels!
